Île-aux-Moines
La Grande Plage – Plage du Dréhen – beach
Time to visit an island jewel! The alluring Île-aux-Moines (island of the monks) in the Gulf of Morbihan is host to the beautiful La Grande Plage:
An island dream!!
No holiday to Southern Brittany is complete without a visit to one of it’s spell-binding islands. The Île-aux-Moines is the most easily accessible with reasonably priced crossings every 30 minutes (crossing time 5 minutes) from Port Blanc.
Surprisingly, in summer, these island beaches are far more tranquil than the other coastal beaches on the mainland.
Whilst there are five beaches on Île-aux-Moines, the gem is La Grande Plage (Plage du Dréhen), close to both the port and the main town.
Life-guards
La Grande Plage has no lifeguards.
Playgrounds
None, so bring along buckets and spades for the kids.
Picnic or restaurants
Bring your own picnic or eat in one of the restaurants around the port or in the town centre.
Tranquil walks and water sports
On the beach you will find several nautical sports available: wind-surfing and sailing.
There are many delightful walking paths for all levels. For a special treat, on the northern coastal walk there is oyster-tasting with wine nestled under the trees overlooking the sea. But if you want to explore more of the island, rent a bicycle – there are three bicycle shops at the port: Download the map
